Authorities foiled 2,669 attempts to smuggle counterfeit products into the country in the first nine months of 2021
Dubai Customs thwarted an attempt to air freight a large shipment of counterfeit skin care products from an Asian country.
Ahmed Mahboob Musabih, General Manager of Dubai Customs, announced that the achievement is part of Dubai Customs ‘efforts to protect the trademarks’ intellectual property rights.
The agency wants to ensure that consumers receive products that meet international specifications and take into account all health and environmental conditions.
“The UAE authorities are keen to protect intellectual property rights and enable trademark owners to continue doing business,” he added.
Musabih said Dubai Customs foiled 2,669 attempts to smuggle counterfeit products into the country in the first nine months of 2021, compared to 1,715 seizures last year.
He pointed out that these seizures also prevent the counterfeits from reaching other regional, international markets via Dubai.
Dubai Customs works with the Brand Owners Council (BOC) to fight counterfeit goods and protect intellectual property rights.
