Three arrested after search of residence in Watertown

Three people were arrested Wednesday night after police searched an apartment where illegal drugs were found.

The Watertown Police Department search occurred at 6:07 p.m. at the 100 block of First Avenue Southwest. According to a police department press release, law enforcement officers executed a search warrant and found methamphetamine, numerous illegally possessed prescription pills and psilocybin mushrooms in the home. Evidence of the distribution of the illegal substances was also discovered.

Diego Villarreal, 28, Shanda Carder, 40, and Elizabeth Johnson, 41, all from Watertown, were each arrested. A security plan was also drawn up for a 3-year-old child who was in the house at the time of the search.

Villarreal faces charges of possession of a controlled substance, use of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and maintaining a place where drugs are stored, sold or used.

Johnson faces charges of possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance, use of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Carder is charged with possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance, triple ingestion of a controlled substance, occupying a room knowing drugs are being stored or used there, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Johnson is on parole and Carder is on parole. Both were held on parole or probation.

The Watertown Police Department was assisted by the South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation.
