CCB raid on factory discovers counterfeit brand products

A factory that produces fake mosquito vaporizers and well-known brands of washing powder was raided by police on Monday.
Established about six months ago in Kaggadasapura, East Bengaluru, the factory was reportedly headed by Mahesh R., a businessman originally from Rajasthan.
The Central Crime Branch’s (CCB) economic crimes wing raided the factory on Monday and arrested Mahesh after receiving a specific lead, officials said. Rs 5,000 worth of counterfeit goods were seized at the factory. The entrepreneur is registered under the Copyright Act. The raid was overseen by Deputy Police Commissioner Jagannath Rai.
The CCB said Mahesh set up sophisticated machinery to make counterfeit Surf Excel detergent powder sachets and Godrej Good Knight mosquito vaporizers. The packaging was so good that it was difficult for ordinary people or even shopkeepers to tell the fakes from the genuine products, according to the CCB.
To avoid suspicion, Mahesh quoted the same price charged by the brands. And he himself delivered the products to retail outlets in East and Northeast Bengaluru, especially in and around Whitefield.
The CCB suspects that Mahesh set up a similar factory in another area before moving to Kaggadasapura.
