Meerut: In one of the largest anti-counterfeiting raids, UP police in cooperation with private company Brand Protectors India seized about 2,000 pieces of “counterfeit” branded sports packaging products from Surajkund, Meerut on Monday.
The total value of the amazing number of goods amounted to several lakhs.
Ready-packaged products would total several millions after the calculation, officials said.
Dhirendra Singh, director of Brand Protectors India, told TOI that thousands of pieces of counterfeit packaging boxes and materials with brand names such as Cosco, Nivia, SG Cricket and Vicky were confiscated from a printing works on Surajkund Road.
The company that runs the factory is known as Shiv Printers. “They allegedly supplied duplicate sporting goods, packaging boxes and packing materials to other wholesalers and factories. These factories, in turn, produced double brand sporting goods across India. The packaging material seized is worth around Rs 10,000 and the value of the ‘counterfeit’ goods that would later be packaged would be in the millions of dollars,” Singh said.
Nauchandi Police Station inspector who led the raid, KK Gautam, said the owner of the factory had been arrested and police are now looking for companies where the packaging material may have been sold.
The lead to the printing house was obtained during recent raids on duplicate sporting goods wholesalers in Meerut and other cities.
